Manna was established in September 2008 with a heartfelt mission to provide free meals to those in need in the Nicholasville area. Every Saturday, an average of 150 individuals come together at the church, not just to enjoy a nourishing meal but also to share in companionship and support. This gathering fosters a sense of community and belonging. We are grateful to the approximately 120 volunteers from local churches and organizations who selflessly give their time each month. Their dedication plays an essential role in making Manna a warm and welcoming space for everyone, truly embodying the spirit of compassion and community service.
Manna Meals
Manna’s meals feature well-balanced dishes like meatloaf, baked chicken, and comforting casseroles and soups. Served in a warm, restaurant-style setting, each meal fosters meaningful conversations. Everyone in the community is invited to share in a hot meal and the joy of fellowship.
Manna serves meals every Saturday. Want to learn more? Join us for lunch one Saturday! Doors open at 11 a.m.
Why a Free Meal Program is Needed
In Jessamine County, the urgency of the situation is strikingly clear. Each month, more than 600 families find themselves in need, qualifying for a free food box from God’s Pantry. As we look ahead, this demand is projected to not only double but potentially triple, casting a spotlight on the growing challenges faced by our community.
In the Jessamine County School system, it is important to recognize that over half of the students rely on free or reduced lunches. This highlights the challenges many families face and underscores the need for support and understanding within our community.
Saturdays have been chosen for several compelling reasons. Children receive meals at school from Monday to Friday, but the weekends bring a vital opportunity to meet their needs. For working individuals and families, weekdays often make it impossible to attend a midday meal, so we embrace Saturday as a day to uplift and nourish our community.
